Privacy Policy
Effective July 22, 2026
Lalia (“we,” “us”) is a reading app that turns books into narrated audio and lets you ask questions about what you’re reading. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Lalia website (laliabook.com) and the Lalia iOS app.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we store your email address, your name if you sign in with Google, and a securely hashed password if you sign up with email.
- Your books and reading activity. Books you upload (PDF or EPUB) and books you add from the free library are stored so we can prepare pages and audio for you. We also store your reading progress, playlists, and app settings.
- Voice input. When you tap the microphone and speak, your audio is sent to our AI provider to understand and answer your question. Voice audio is processed in the moment and is not used to build a voice profile.
- Payment information. Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers; we store only your subscription status and Stripe customer reference.
- Usage data. We keep basic counts of features you use (such as pages narrated) to enforce plan limits and improve the app.
How we use information
- To provide the service: preparing pages, generating narration, translating, and answering your questions.
- To keep your library, progress, and settings in sync across devices.
- To manage subscriptions and billing.
- To secure the service and prevent abuse.
Service providers
We share data only with the providers needed to run Lalia:
- Google (Gemini) — generates narration audio, translations, and answers to your questions, including processing the text of the page being read and your voice questions.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Vercel — hosting and file storage.
- Upstash & Firebase — databases that store your account, library, and progress.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data (uploaded books, progress, playlists) at any time by contacting us at the address below; we complete deletion requests within 30 days.
Children
Lalia is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we will update this page and the effective date above.
